COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the duties require the use of limited judgment in performing unskilled work cleaning and caring for public buildings; employees in this class are responsible for the cleanliness of a section of a school building assigned to them, performing unskilled maintenance duties, and other laboring tasks.

TYPICAL DUTIES

* 1. Sweeps, mops, washes walls, dusts, empties waste baskets and disposes of rubbish, handles towels and other cleaning supplies, waxes floors, washes windows and blackboards, and assists in cartage of supplies and equipment.
* 2. Secures windows and doors after cleaning assigned areas.
3. Removes snow or rakes leaves in immediate vicinity of buildings.

UPK Co-Teacher

The St. Joseph's University Universal Prekindergarten Program, in collaboration with the Plainedge Union Free School District, is seeking a Lead Teacher and Co-Teacher for the remainder of the 23/24 school year. Qualifications for Lead Teachers are B-2 certification and Masters Degree and for Co-Teachers are NYSED Teacher Assistant with a BS Degree (preferred). SJNY UPK utilizes the -teaching model and this experience will count toward your professional certification as well as professional hours for NYS teaching certifications. Lead Teacher salary is $245 a day. Co-Teacher salary is $137 a day. Medical benefits are not offered. Registered Nurse Substitutes

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs professional nursing services at one or more schools in the maintenance of acceptable health standards, school health records and the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of a School Physician or School Nurse-Teacher, this is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for giving care to students and for performing related nursing services such as pupil health screening and notification of defects and communicable disease control. This position differs from the certificated position of School Nurse-Teacher in that there is no responsibility involved for either classroom instruction or guidance. Supervision may be exercised over the work of clerical assistants.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1. Assists the School Physician in physical, visual, and auditory screening examinations of students and employees.
2. Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees.
3. Prepares and maintains health records for school authorities.
4. Assists at school immunization clinics.
5. Arranges to transport sick or injured students or employees to hospital, home, doctor's or dentist's offices in cases of emergency.
6. Inspects the school plant, playground, and cafeteria and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions.
7. Orders, inventories, and oversees the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment.
8. Consults with attendance teachers, staff members and School Nurse-Teachers concerning a variety of health factors related to non-attendance and communicable disease.
9. Prepares records and reports as required.
Fleet/Bus Mechanic

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the position requires mechanical skill and the use of judgment, and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES

* 1. Performs skilled repair work on gasoline or diesel powered automobiles, trucks, sweepers, heavy equipment, and other automotive equipment.
* 2. Repairs, overhauls, or replaces transmissions, valves, clutches, brakes, generators, ignition systems, and other automotive parts and equipment.
3. Performs limited body and painting work.
* 4. Performs period inspections and tunes up equipment to ensure proper functioning.
5. Performs emergency road service.
6. Maintains records and prepares reports on work accomplished.
7. Uses acetylene and arc-welding equipment, as required.

Under direct supervision, this is routine manual work calling for the services of a skilled operator. Work involves considerable responsibility for safety of school children.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1. Operates a school bus on a regular schedule.
2. Occasionally drives students to and from special events.
3. Cleans, washes and polishes bus.
4. Changes oil, puts on chains, repairs tires and performs a variety of minor repair tasks.
Social Studies Teacher - Probationary

A probationary tenure track Social Studies teacher vacancy is available for the 2024-2025 school year at Plainedge High School and Plainedge Middle School.   Candidates must have a NYS Certification for Social Studies 7-12.

Resident Substitute Teachers

Resident Substitute Teachers are credentialed teachers who report to their assigned School every day to provide classroom coverage.  In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, Resident Substitute Teachers must help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Reports to school office at the start of school day to receive assignment and any required materials.  Follows sign out procedures as prescribed by the building.
  2. Carries out program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by classroom teacher.
  3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  4. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  5. Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
  6. Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
  7. Ensures that students are never left unattended in the classroom. 
  8. May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as recess duty, lunch duty, etc.
  9. Performs other related duties as directed by principal.
  10. May be asked to provide one-on-one support for students in the classroom.

Teacher Aides and Subs

As a Teacher Aide you will provide for the well-being and supervision of child(ren) in the classroom throughout the day as directed by the classroom teacher. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Provide one-on-one support for students in a school environment.
  2. Assist teachers inside their classrooms K-12.
  3. Supervise child(ren) at all times and assist them in daily activities while promoting independence.
  4. Assist in maintaining order and cleanliness of classroom, equipment and supplies.
  5. Demonstrate a consistent, nurturing manner toward all children.
  6. Perform classroom duties as assigned by the teacher(s) or teaching assistant.
