| Resident Substitute Teachers | | Resident Substitute Teachers are credentialed teachers who report to their assigned School every day to provide classroom coverage. In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, Resident Substitute Teachers must help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Reports to school office at the start of school day to receive assignment and any required materials. Follows sign out procedures as prescribed by the building.
- Carries out program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by classroom teacher.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
- Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
- Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
- Ensures that students are never left unattended in the classroom.
- May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as recess duty, lunch duty, etc.
- Performs other related duties as directed by principal.
- May be asked to provide one-on-one support for students in the classroom.

| Pre-K Co-Teachers | | The St. Joseph's University Universal PreKindergarden Program, in collaboration with the Plainedge Union Free School District, is seeking Co-Teachers for the 2025-2026 school year. Qualified candidates have at least their Bachelor's degree, are working towards their Master's and have little or no Pre-K experience. Those without teaching certifications must have NYSED Teacher Assistant license. SJNY UPK utilizes the co-teaching model and this experience will count towards your professional certification as well as professional hours for NYS teaching certifications. Salary is $145 per day. COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of a School Physician or School Nurse-Teacher, this is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for giving care to students and for performing related nursing services such as pupil health screening and notification of defects and communicable disease control. This position differs from the certificated position of School Nurse-Teacher in that there is no responsibility involved for either classroom instruction or guidance. Supervision may be exercised over the work of clerical assistants.
